We had to drop one table due to late cancellations, but riichi is still gaining popularity. In general that is, because poor Harry Kal did not make one single ron or tsumo, in which case we can imagine that you might feel differently about that...

The special 'Red Fives' price (donation of the newly formed Dutch club by that name) was given to Frauke Roos. She was the foreign player closest to zero points.

Désirée Heemskerk was crowned Dutch Champion 2009; she finished 6th today and gathered enough points to consolidate her first position after the KBT (Cherryblossom tournament) in Nijmegen last February.

We have decided to drop the 'Yakitori' and play with 'Red Fives'. EMA requested that all tournaments should be following the same rules. While we do follow the official rules, we have experimented with a different additional bonus element  for both Red Fives and Yakitori are optional components.

But since the use of Red Fives is introduced in the rules as a 'de facto standard' and the Yakitori is not, we will now also use them.

Hans Wikström (Sweden) is the winner of the 5th Dutch Open. In a nerve wrecking final, he managed to stay ahead of the competition - Joël Ratsimandresy (France) took 2nd place and Eveline Broers (Netherlands) finished third. She was crowned 'Dutch Champion'.

The 'surpise' team price was taken by Hans, Joël, Olivier Boivin and Laurent Mahé. Teams were formed randomly and not by choice of the players.

The special '5th anniversary Price', a mahjong XXL set sponsored by DAJA mahjong, was won by Olivier Boivin. He completed an 'All Fives' hand on the Pair within 21 minutes.

About us

HUmaniac is - amongst others - the home of Paula Pereira Gomes and Robert Rijnders. For Dutch players, the club is a.k.a. 'De Drie Wijzen' - as you probably have guessed 'Big Three Dragons' in English (although 'Big Three Scholars' is the more accurate name for this combination, as it says in Chinese as well).

They do not only play in international tournaments,  they also organize tournaments themselves. These are the 'Tile Hog' MCR tournament and the 'Kinryu Majan Taikai' Riichi tournament.

The name HUmaniac is derived from HUmanic. Robert noticed a big 'HU' sign while walking through Villach. Upon further investigation he found out that it was the signpost of a shoe outlet. 'HU' of course being the term to announce a winning game (in MCR) and him being a maniac in general while still human in a weird sort of way, he came up with HUmaniac.
