Tile Hog - Dutch Open: MERS2 certified by EMA.
Referee: Robert Rijnders
EMA Observer: Marco Foschi
Schedule: 7 rounds of 120 minutes
In the venue of the WMC, 64 players battled for the title - as defending champion (Hans Wikström from Sweden) was not present, it was certain that a new champion would be crowned. Eveline Broers (best Dutch player in 3rd place last year and crowned national champion then), was giving it another shot and she came very close again...
It did not look like that at all after the first 4 rounds on Saturday - she scored 9 points, where 2 players had 14, 2 had 13 and 2 more had 12 table points. First place was tied between Yvonne van der Heide and Adrie van Geffen. So no perfect scores on Saturday, but Eveline scored 100% on Sunday, which brought her 3rd place again, but not the Dutch (national) title. Yvonne also scored 100% on Sunday and so she became the new Dutch Open Champion and Dutch National Champion, with 26 table points. Dimphy van Grinsven took 2nd place with 22 points, by adding 10 to her total of 12 from Saturday.
Yvonne and Dimphy were part of the same team (Daja), but it was not enough to also win the team prize. Els Kuijpers added 9 points to the team's total, but John Kuijpers finished last with only 3 table points. Eveline's team did much better - not called 'The Winning Team' for nothing, she and her team mates (Martha Pasterkamp 18, Bert Claessen 14 and Janine Scholtemijer 13), scored 66 points in total. Just 1 point ahead of the Little & Big Dragons and 6 ahead of Daja.
We were very pleased with the first ever Italian appearence at the Tile Hog - 4 players were united in the team 'Raffy'. Of course our loyal visitors from Germany (Frauke Roos and Uwe Pekau) were there again, accompanied by 3 fellow Germans this time, besides 4 French and 3 Belgian players. We enjoyed organizing the tournament and we hope you equally enjoyed participating!
A special thank you to Trees Meijer for being our substitute player on Saturday.
