Play Mahjong Online

On June 2nd, 72 participants gathered in Almere for a final meeting before the OEMC. All Dutch players for Copenhagen (19) where present and 9 foreign players as well: 6 from France and 1 each from Austria, the UK and Portugal.

Around 10:50 the first round began and Gerda van Oorschot (272), Laurent Mahé (270) and Hans van der Poel (220) had a great start and scored 4 tablepoints. But also Emma Guenel scored 4, although with only 29 mahjongpoints, the lowest winning score this round.

After everyone enjoyed the lunch, with typical Dutch 'kroketten', round 2 commenced; Sébastien Berret (219) won this one, just before Yvonne van de Heide (218) and Adrie van Geffen (202). Marianne Strik got 4 tablepoints with today's lowest score: 24 mahjongpoints. Also Laurent, Gerda and Hans scored 4 tablepoints and in that order they where on top of the list. In the meantime, the software refused to update the (Powerpoint) presentation, so we could not project intermediate results...

Round 3 was won by Rien Viergever with the highest total for the day, 313 mahjongpoints, Dicky Rep scored 4 tablepoints with only 25, where Désirée got only 2 tablepoints with 194! Lionel Legaie (225) took the 4 points on that table... Gerda was the only 'top 3' player to score 4 points again. So, she was firmly in the lead with 12 points, before Dirk Borst with 10 and three players with 9 tablepoints.

The final round was won by French Open champion Marianne Croeze - she scored 282 mahjongpoints, but did not play a role in the battle for the prizes. Gerda scored zero points and had to wait (and see) how the others did. Dirk failed too (zero points) and from the players with 9 points, Marianne Strik also scored zero points, Sébastien scored only 1 but Adrie did not fail, scored 4 points and grabbed the first price. Désirée did well too - she made an ultimate jump from 6th to the 2nd place, leaving Gerda on 3rd place...

Lionel received the BFP award, a special prize for the Best Foreign Player.

The Best Personal Score trophy was for Hans van der Poel - he ended 2nd in the rating, but the rules state that a player will not receive two (main) awards / prizes. Having said that - the free VIP passes were to be given to the best performing Mahjongtime players, regardless their classification, so those did go to a3geffen, dees and fleurtje.

And once again today, we learned that it is not easy to be referee. To err is to be human, but you always hope that there is no cause for discussion. And with an EMA rating, 4 glittering prizes and (3) free Mahjongtime VIP memberships, we might have hoped for more foreign players. Maybe next year, when we hope to host the Open Dutch championship :-) Nevertheless, we believe the tournament was successful and we hope to see everyone again next year. Thank you all for participating!
